ILOILO CITY, Sept. 30 – The Department of Health (DOH) was tasked to host the opening ceremonies for the 26th National Statistics Month observance this October underscoring the theme: “Pagyamanin at Gamitin ang Estadistika, Kalusugan para sa Lahat ay Abot-Kamay Na”.
As part of the DOH family, Statistical Coordination Officer V Nelida Losare of the Philippine Statistics Authority 6 said the offices of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation and the Commission on Population in Western Visayas through the Regional Statistical Committee (RSC) have committed to help DOH 6 to make the regional celebration more significant and meaningful this year.
With DOH being the lead agency, the focus of this year’s observance is on the thrusts of the government on universal health care. It will also highlight the various endeavors of the official statisticians and technical personnel involved in the generation of health and nutrition statistics.
Losare said the RSC 6 composed of about 50 government agencies, state colleges and universities, local government units and statistical group saw to it that a number of activities will be undertaken that aims to improve the statistical knowledge and awareness of the public during the month-long celebration which will be ushered in by a Stat Walk and Hataw exercises at the Iloilo Esplanade on October 2.
Due to the holding of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings and related events in Iloilo City, RSC 6 decided to hold the opening program on October 6 at the RDC Hall of the National Economic Development Authority 6 (NEDA 6) at 9AM.
The 26th NSM Statistical Exhibit will be opened on October 8 at the Robinsons Place. This year, the Department of Tourism, who won the contest in 2014 will handle the contest that showcases the various data generated by member agencies and institutions of the RSC 6.
Commission on Higher Education will conduct the Statistical Analysis Contest for college students on October 21 while NEDA 6 will hold the Statistics Quiz for secondary students on October 23.
Judges will start the evaluation of the Statistical Board Contest on October 19.
Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Iloilo Branch will host the closing ceremonies on October 29 where winners of the various contests will be announced.
Losare said the strong support and participation of the member agencies of the RSC 6 in the annual celebration earned for Western Visayas the Best NSM Region Award for three consecutive years, from 2011 to 2013.
