PASOO Launches Novel Cookbook for Filipino Diabetics

It is a common and agonizing dilemma: Filipino diabetics try their best to control their blood sugar, but the temptation to indulge in sumptuous food is too strong.

The Philippines is among the top 15 countries with the highest prevalence of type 2 diabetes in the world. More than 4 million Filipinos are diagnosed diabetics, and many more are unaware they have the disease.  A 2008 survey found that almost 85% of Filipino patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus are struggling to achieve their target blood glucose level. Moreover, 3 out of 4 Filipino patients with diabetes are overweight. Being overweight places extra stress on the body in a variety of ways, including the ability to maintain proper blood glucose levels.

“Delicious, Delightful Dishes for People with Diabetes” a novel cookbook series for Filipino diabetics was recently launched by the Philippine Association for the Study of Overweight and Obesity (PASOO) and research-based pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca to address the high prevalence of type 2 diabetes in the country.

The Philippine Association for the Study of Overweight and Obesity (PASOO) and research-based pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca are aiming to address this problem with the launch of a novel cookbook series for Filipino diabetics, “Delicious, Delightful Dishes for People with Diabetes”.
