Manila, Philippines, 2 December 2015 – Diabetes care leader Novo Nordisk supported the SunPIOLOgy Run 2015 held on November 28, 2015 at McKinley West in Fort Bonifacio. This year’s theme was “Kick Diabetes”.
Ranked in the top 15 in the world for diabetes prevalence, the Philippines is one of the world’s emerging diabetes hotspots. About 3.3 million people in the Philippines have diabetes, affecting 1 in 16 of the country’s adult population. An estimated 1.74 million Filipinos remain undiagnosed and are therefore untreated, putting them at risk for complications such as heart attack, blindness, kidney failure and loss of limbs.1
“By joining SunPIOLOgy Run, we do our part to prevent and control diabetes and also help send more underprivileged Filipino students to school. Let’s run together for a healthier Philippines,” said Piolo Pascual.
“Regular physical activity is crucial to preventing and managing diabetes and its complications. Novo Nordisk is honored to support SunPIOLOgy Run 2015 and its advocacies on education and kicking diabetes and its complications,” said Mr. Jeppe Theisen, General Manager, Novo Nordisk Philippines.

SunPIOLOgy Run 2015 has four categories (500-meter dash for kids, 1K, 3K, 5K, and 10K), with four obstacle courses for adult participants (maze, zigzag, candy crawl, and hurdles). Punching bags were placed at the end of the run for participants to kick to signify their commitment in the fight against diabetes. For every kick delivered by participants, PhP120 was donated to designated beneficiaries. This year’s SunPIOLOgy Run beneficiaries included the Institute for Studies on Diabetes Foundation, Inc. (ISDFI), Lingkod Kapamilya, Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation Philippines Inc., Star Magic Scholars, and Hebreo Foundation.2 Now on its seventh year, SunPIOLOgy Run is an annual fundraising event organized by Sun Life Philippines and Star Magic.3
