Gynuracel™: dietary supplement to help prevent and control diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension and inflammation

A plant-based dietary supplement that can help prevent and control diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension is now available in the country.

Gynuracel is made from the leaves of Gynura procumbens (kamañgi in Tagalog), a medicinal plant commonly found in tropical Asia countries such as China, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Traditionally, it is widely used for the treatment of a wide variety of health ailments such as kidney discomfort, rheumatism, diabetes mellitus, constipation, and hypertension.

Also known as longevity spinach, Mollucan spinach” and leaves of gods, Gynura procumbens is called kamañgi in the Philippines, paetumpung in Thailand, sambung nyawa (“extending life”) in Malaysia, daun dewa in Indonesia, and baibing ca in Chinese.

Gynuracel helps control diabetes by promoting the release of insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas. Insulin allows your body to use sugar (glucose) from carbohydrates in the food that you eat for energy or to store glucose for future use. It helps keeps your blood sugar level from getting too high (hyperglycemia) or too low (hypoglycemia).

Gynuracel helps control hypertension by aiding the increase of nitric oxide, a naturally occurring chemical that relaxes blood vessels thereby increasing oxygen and blood flow, and lowering blood pressure.

When a wound swells up, turns red and hurts, it may be a sign of inflammation. Generally speaking, inflammation is the immune system’s response to stimulus, e.g. bacteria colonizing a wound or a splinter piercing your finger. Inflammation happens when the immune system fights against something that may turn out to be harmful. However, the effects of inflammation can sometimes cause considerable pain and discomfort. Gynuracel has been shown to reduce swelling and pain, decrease scarring, and hasten wound healing.

Triglycerides and cholesterol are separate types of lipids that circulate in your blood. Triglycerides store unused calories and provide your body with energy, and cholesterol is used to build cells and certain hormones. Because triglycerides and cholesterol can’t dissolve in blood, they circulate throughout your body with the help of proteins that transport the lipids (lipoproteins).

Excess levels of cholesterol and triglycerides increase your risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Studies have shown that Gynuracel lowers cholesterol and triglyceride levels by preventing their storage in your body and helping in the release of excess fats.

Individuals 16 years old and above, especially to those with a family history of the aforementioned diseases and conditions, can take 1 capsule of Gynuracel once or twice a day. Those with existing illnesses can take 1 capsule of Gynuracel 2 to 3 times a day. Gynuracel is ideally taken before meals. Pregnant and lactating women should consult their doctor before taking any dietary supplement.

Gynuracel is available in Southstar Drug, Carlos Drug, and Generika Drugstore outlets nationwide, and will soon be available in the Mercury Drug online store. It is distributed by Trifinity Food Health Corp., a 100% Filipino-owned trading company specializing in food supplement and food products.
